JUNETEENTH AND RED:

A Cultural Exploration for Youth

Saturday, June 15th

1 – 3 pm

$40 for youth + guardian

Led by Chef Kiki Hamilton

Join us for an exciting culinary workshop tailored for youth ages 8-16, where we’ll delve into the symbolism of red foods in the celebration of Juneteenth, a day commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. Through hands-on cooking activities and engaging discussions, participants will learn about the history and significance of red foods in African American culture and how they reflect themes of resilience, empowerment, and cultural identity.

Each participant should bring one adult guardian. Guardians are invited to observe and participate in the eating of the meal, fostering intergenerational connections and meaningful conversations about history, culture, and identity. Let’s come together to honor the legacy of Juneteenth and celebrate the resilience and strength of the African American community through food, fellowship, and learning.
