The experiential education opportunities are world class and located just outside the city so it was easy to carpool. My friend, who was new to food system work, took the class with me and we both got an extraordinary amount out of the intensive weekend course. The staff and educators are personable, patient and treat everyone as a peer in the food justice movement. This was a wholly inspiring place to visit and I’m thankful they are willing to share their space, time and knowledge with the community”.[/bq]|

And I got to asking myself the question “can a urban micro farm make money?”. The super knowledgeable folks at ECO City taught me, in a very hands on way; about crop planning, growing, IPM, harvesting, season extension techniques, composting, livestock, and how to bring produce to market. All on less than 2 acres. As far as answering my question…? ECO City showed me that through strong community relations, diversity in production and willingness to creatively problem solve there is great potential. And as we all know, even the bigger farms receive govt. subsidies. Thanks ECO City for doing the hard work of micro farming and teaching at the same time”. [/bq]

Even though I’ve been a vegetable gardener for 20 years, I learned many things to help me plan, improve production, and employ sustainable efficient methods. You all are wonderful teachers, models & people! Thank you!”

[bq type=”speech” author=”Xavier Brown” profession=”Starting Urban Agriculture” company=”June 2012″]”I decided to take the class at ECO city farm because they were the only urban farm in the DC Maryland Virginia area that offered a hands on educational agricultural course that grows food intensively year round. The Urban agricultural class that Eco offers is by best classes you will take in this area. Without a doubt the best thing about ECO is the staff, they have wonderful energy, a wealth of knowledge and a strong passion for organic farming and food justice. Since taking the class I have helped to start an environmental non-profit and I was hired by The DC Government to help with managing community gardens and garden education around the city”. [/bq]|

[bq type=”speech” author=”Robert Bell” profession = “Intensive Intro to Urban Agriculture” company=”September 2013″]”Taking the AGR 302: Introduction to Intensive Urban Agriculture course at ECO City Farms was one of the most influential experiences in my life, period!
Whether an environmental expert or just beginning to go green, the course offers something for everyone. As a native Washingtonian, spending several days at this gem just outside the nation’s capital is a worthwhile in an of itself. To boot, however, the knowledgeable, warm, and downright fun staff provide an urban agriculture experience no traditional classroom can replace.
The interactive hands-on learning across multiple subjects (from composting and crop production to biodiversity and beekeeping and much more) kept me captivated. I am constantly talking to others in my career and personal life who are eager to make a difference in this age of eco-innovation and increasing urban agriculture.
This course left me feeling equipped with the basic tools and information I needed to become an eco-entrepreneur in an environment that will inspire the next generation of sustainable leaders.” [/bq]|
