Americorps Job Opening @ Real Food Farm (Baltimore, MD)

Tyler Brown, Real Food Farm’s manager, recently notified us of two positions available to full-time Americorps members this Fall. Here is his description of what these positions present to potential candidates:

The positions are opportunities for individuals interested in further developing their farming skills while engaging with community food security and social change. The position will begin in September 2011 until August 2012. 40 hours per week Tuesdays-Saturdays. Pay will be a modest bi-weekly Americorps stipend and an education award upon completion of the term. Field ManagerThe Field Manager will assist the Farm Manager with the organization, coordination and implementation of daily work and food production activities at the farm.

Primary responsibilities include: implementing weekly planting schedule; managing insect and weed control, monitoring soil fertility, carrying out general field observation, managing youth and adult staff and volunteer labor; and staffing a weekly farmers market stand. Requirements include: agricultural experience & a strong interest in crop production and organic farming; experience and interest in working with volunteers & diverse populations; qualities of self-motivation, time management, flexibility and cooperation. High tunnel experience is desirable.

Agricultural Projects CoordinatorThe Agricultural Projects Coordinator will manage specialized on-farm projects such as compost operations, soil fertility, apiaries, orchard, and innovative stormwater management practices. Specific projects will partially vary depending on experience, needs, and interest.

Primary responsibilities include: continuing development and expansion of previously mentioned projects, coordinating implementation of rainwater harvesting techniques, and weekly general agriculture duties on the farm.
